Use of wood

My sculptures were often confrontational and as the use of Found Objects became less central to the work I used heavy pieces of wood to enhance and increase the feeling of strength and solidity. 

To some extent these pieces were effected by the wood as I found it, for example in Fishwives the head shapes suggested themselves and the wood that formed the neck in ‘Reverie: Hands, Fists, Head and Heart’ became central to the piece creating a physical tension alongside the more emotional tension suggested by the title.
